Reporting: On August 15, 2022, The Federalist published “Records Suggest A Bureaucrat Hack’s Gripe Spurred Trump Raid.” The column pieces together prior New York Times and Washington Post reporting. It attributes to a post-retirement interview Ferriero’s recollection of watching the Trumps leave the White House, seeing someone carry a white banker box, and asking himself what was in it — and of watching January 6 coverage from the Archives building. Those lines are the Federalist’s account of other outlets’ interview. This site did not open the Post transcript. They are not quoted here as independently verified Ferriero text.

The Federalist’s thesis — that a bureaucrat’s gripe helped spur a raid — is labeled commentary. It is not a court finding. It is not proof of a crime. A later Federalist piece (April 30, 2024) mentioned Ferriero’s June 2021 frustration with the pace of Trump-team efforts, citing a filing screenshot posted by Julie Kelly. That is also reporting of a filing, not the filing itself.
